It was reported by Deadline that the actress is currently being talked to join the sequels cast as Princess Irulan Corrino, who is Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV eldest daughter.
If Pugh should join the sequel’s cast of Dunes, she will be coming into the film together with the returning stars, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya. Villeneuve will return as co-writer, director, and producer.
Part one of Dune was a success notwithstanding the release of the day and date. The anticipated film was seen opening in theaters at the same time it was made available for streaming on HBO Max.
On the streaming service, it had $41 million with high viewership for the film, which is prompting the sequel to be ordered soon.
The first installment garnered an abundance of Academic Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.
After joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the role of Yelena Belova, fans’ favorite, Florence Pugh has been more popular than ever. She appeared first in Black Widow together with Scarlett Johansson before taking the role in the Disney series Hawkeye with Vincent D’Onofrio and Jeremy Renner.
Other works of Pugh include the Ari Aster horror film Midsommar, the period drama Little Women and Fighting with my Family, all of which are notable roles.
Furthermore, the actress has teamed up with Christopher Nolan for the next big movie Oppenheimer, handled by the director which stars Rami Malek, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Cillian Murphy. Recently, she wrapped work on the Netflix original, The Wonder.
The second Dune movie won’t be released until 2023, however, the production of the movie isn’t too far off. Denis Villeneuve, the director, has confirmed his plans to get cameras already rolling this summer on the film, which may also mean that other names for the cast will be announced soon. The filmmaker has also given hints on what should be expected in part two of Dune to fans.
Villeneuve says the film is supposed to be shot by the end of summer but it is mostly designed. He further explained to Empire that what helps them right now is the fact that it’s the first time he’s revisited a universe. For that, he’s working with the same crew as they all know what to do and know what it will look like. The movie will be way more challenging, he says, but they know where they are stepping on. Since the screenplay has been written, he feels confident. However, he has a challenge as the pandemic is the only big unknown for him right now.
In addition, he says the movie is like a chess game. He’ll introduce some new characters in part two and a decision he made quite early was that the first part would be more about Bene Gesserit and Paul Atreides, with his experience of being in contact with a different culture for the first time. While the second part will be much more about Harkonnen stuff.
The second part of Dune is scheduled to be in movie theaters on the 20th of October, 2023.
